FIFTH AMENDMENT OF THE US. CONSTITUTION

BASIC CONSTITUTIONAL LIMITS ON POLICE PROCEDURE

Due process, grand juries, double jeopardy.  What does this all mean in laymen terms?

Debitum, magna iudices, hanc causam duplicem. Quid hoc sibi vult ea in laicis?

The Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution provides,
El Quinto Enmendamiento de la Costitucion Estadounidense provee,

"No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation."

What is your understanding of the Fifth Amendment to the US Constitution?  Do you feel that it is appropriately defined and interpreted for all citizens in laymen terms?  Or are the terms interpreted differently,  dependent upon which walk of life we are on?  Does Due Process mean the same for a politician as it does for an ordinary citizen with little education or even a college education? What are your thoughts on the aforementioned?  Please see below for a refresher on the terms and definitions, let me know how you would interpret them.  I would love to hear from you.
